Since 1960, the Garden Club has convened each December to make large holiday wreaths for our downtown area and buildings. In 1976, we joined forces with the New Canaan Beautification League. As a result of this collaboration, we have expanded our wreath-making efforts, and our beautiful wreaths now adorn the entrances to Town Hall, the Police Department, the Library, the Train Station,
and the Nature Center.
With the help of the Public Works Department, who deliver the large wooden wreath frames as well as heaps and heaps of recently pruned greens, the Garden Club and Beautification League gather at the Nature Center for a fun day of creating festive holiday décor for downtown New Canaan! At least 30 volunteers participate each year in this spirit-lifting and fun start to the holiday season!
In addition to the large wreaths, approximately 30 small wreaths are created to place around Town, Waveny Care Center, and Lapham Senior Center. Additional greens are used to make small evergreen arrangements for Meals on Wheels trays and for floral arrangements for the New Canaan Inn and Waveny Care Center.
